About
Vittorio’s Pizza is a new pop-up operating at Stonestown Market on Sundays, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Vittorio’s pop-up was launched on November 6th, 2021 and we are exploring more options for the near future. The pop-up is a family operation with three generations working together to celebrate their family’s pizza making tradition in San Francisco.
Vittorio’s Pizza is dedicated to Vittorio Anastasio’s grandfather, Vittorio (Victor) Anastasio, who immigrated to the United States in the 1950s from the island of Ischia in the Bay of Naples.. On Ischia, Vittorio’s father owned a hotel and restaurant where he mastered his culinary skills. In 1953 in San Francisco, Vittorio learned how to make New York style pizza from Toto of Toto’s Pizza before opening his own restaurant, Victor’s Pizza, in 1954. Victor’s was an acclaimed pizzeria in its day and a favorite of of famed journalist Herb Cain. Vittorio passed away in 1975 and his oldest son Stanley took over the restaurant until 1986. Victor’s was later sold, and still operates today under ownership outside the family. Stanley’s brother George opened Giorgio’s Pizza on Clement Street in the 1970’s and later on sold it, then re-opened a Giorgio’s in the wine country.
Our Pizza
At the farmers market we are using traditional Neapolitan pizza making techniques and ingredients. Our dough is hand mixed and naturally leavened using a sourdough starter. We use whole peeled San Marzano tomatoes and sea salt in our red sauce. We source many of our toppings from the other farmers in the market and hope to expand our topping offerings over time.
